The Mountain Association for Community Economic Development (MACED) partners with local people to build upon the strengths of Kentucky and Central Appalachia. We create economic alternatives and strive to make Appalachian communities better places to live.
Since 1976, MACED’s commitment to the communities of Central Appalachia has shown us that high expectations, vision and hard work are essential to accomplish results. Three core strategies help us work toward our goal of transforming the lives of people and places in need in Central Appalachia through sustainable development.
Growing the size and strength of key sectors has the potential to develop substantial economic, environmental and community returns. MACED believes we can deepen our impact on the energy and forestry sectors in the region by focusing our range of tools on them.
Central Appalachia needs more entrepreneurs and stronger enterprises that create employment, provide needed services and support engaged residents. MACED can help these entrepreneurs be successful by providing capital and technical assistance.
Too often, state and federal policies inadequately support needed services and sustainable development, subsidize harmful development or ignore the unique concerns and needs of Central Appalachia. To achieve change at scale, public policy must shift. Address:

Originally from Memphis, David Hudson (seen right) attended the University of Tennessee where he earned his Bachelors of Science in 1993 and then Masters of Accountancy in 1996. He started his financial career in Knoxville in 1995, before moving to Kentucky in 1997. David worked for a couple prominent CPA firms in Lexington but during that time, had a greater vision of service. It was his “outside the box” thinking that fueled David to start his own practice in 2002 with the mission to teach others how to think outside their own boxes.
Twelve years later, Legacy Consulting Group (LCG) has grown to be so much more than just a tax and financial planning firm. It’s a center for financial education and empowerment serving individuals, families, and businesses alike. It’s an environment where candidness and client-centricity are interwoven into all aspects of the business. Adding to its uniqueness, LCG’s David Hudson is a Dave Ramsey Endorsed Local Provider (ELP) for CPA and Tax Services. Dave Ramsey, himself, was an integral part of growing the firm in the early years with his radio spots that endorsed David personally for his work. It’s this type of integrity and sound financial backing that helps LCG produce the remarkable results it does for its clients. OUR APPROACH
Our firm was built on two client-centric principles: EMPOWER and EDUCATE. These principles are the foundation of everything we do at LCG. Our service offerings encompass almost every personal and business financial aspect. Because of this, we are able to build our clients a custom service package based on their individual needs and goals.
Our unique holistic approach has allowed us to build long-term, trusting relationships with each of our clients because the process is transparent and the advice is honest. Because of this, we provide every potential client with a complementary consultation. The goal during this initial meeting to determine if our team and our services is going to be a good fit for the client and their unique needs. OUR STYLE
Our style is candid and consistent with our clients in all areas; what we are going to do for them, how we are going to do it, what we expect of them, and how we will be paid. Most often, the client doesn’t exactly know what services they need – so we serve as a problem solver for them.
Our style and approach differs greatly from many of our CPA and financial advisor colleagues, primarily because we are not salespeople. Instead, we view ourselves as a consultants with a teacher’s heart. Not only do we want to help our clients with their financial service needs, we want them to understand what we are doing and, most importantly, why.
We are extremely honest in our consulting as we do not always tell clients what they want to hear about their finances. We feel that by not being honest, we are giving the client false hope that things are better than they actually are.
Clients need to hear our professional opinion including “the good, the bad and the ugly”. Our series of processes have enabled us to work closely with our clients and build an understanding of how we can help our clients achieve their financial goals. David W. Hudson, CPA/PFS, RFC President & CEO
