Background
The son of a World War II veteran and lay-genealogist, Hector Chavana Sr. was born in McCallen, Texas, and had a variety of life experiences. He grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and had jobs ranging from lifeguard to field work and bar tending. He attended Southwest Texas State University, where he joined the Mexican American Youth Organization and ran for city council, endorsed by the Raza Unida Party. He attended Thurgood Marshall College of Law in Houston, and he has three children. He has had decades of experience in practicing in Houston, Texas and federal courts.
Hector Chavana Jr grew up in Houston, and attended schools in the Aldine School District. He attended the Honors College at the University of Houston, where he was active in an organization called MEChA. After college he supported Comprehensive Immigration Reform, and various community initiatives. He worked as a mortgage broker in the early 2000s, and holds an active real estate broker license. He has had an active insurance license since 2007. He is married and has three children. He graduated number three in his class from South Texas College of Law-Houston in 2017, and he has academic work has been published by the state bar’s consumer section.
