Our firm was originally formed by Jerry Rouse in the late 1970’s. Jerry and Emily Mills formed a corporation under the name Mills, Rouse and Company in 1987, the predecessor firm to Joyce and Company, CPA. Keith Joyce joined the firm in 1995 after earning the Katherine Guthrie award for tying the highest overall score in North Carolina on the November 1995 CPA exam. He acquired majority ownership of the firm in 2000 and officially changed the name of the firm to Joyce and Company, CPA in 2005.
Over that time, we have continued to provide quality professional services in a timely and efficient manner for our clients.

Welcome to the John W Sweemer CPA web site. John has been in public accounting and corporate controller positions for over thirty five years and brings a wealth of experience to his clients. Located in Cary, North Carolina, He services individuals and small businesses in the Raleigh, Durham, Cary area. John is more than an accountant. His practice is a “Christian focused practice and is active in both Christian and secular communities.
After a few short years working with a National CPA firm in Chicago, IL, I started up a CPA practice in Barrington, IL, a Suburb of Chicago. The practice quickly grew to a business that served some 60 local business accounts and 300+ tax clients. In 1986 our family followed our dreams of moving to a warmer climate and a better quality of life.
I sold the practice to relocate to North Carolina.
Since coming to North Carolina, I have provided the financial management as controller and CFO for several small companies and am intimately familiar with what it takes to run small companies and start-up operations. In 2004 I started up a small personalized practice working from my home.
It is my goal to help clients work through the process of growth from sole proprietor through incorporation. Many small businesses rush into incorporation and in so doing actually find themselves more liable as owners of a closely held corporation than they would have been otherwise.
My job is not just to help you grow, it’s to help you grow responsibly; to make sure you understand the difference between a sole proprietorship, a partnership, a Limited Liability Company, an S Corp, and a C Corp. There are advantages and disadvantages to all of them, and I will work with you to assist you in choosing and forming the business entity that is right for you.
