“Big Rapids” is a small city located in the central region of Michigan, about 50 miles north of Grand Rapids. The city has a population of approximately 10,000 people and serves as the county seat of Mecosta County.
The area where Big Rapids is located was first settled in the mid-19th century, and the city was officially incorporated in 1869. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s as a result of the lumber and railroad industries.
Today, Big Rapids is known for its charming downtown area, which is filled with historic buildings and unique shops and restaurants. The city is also home to Ferris State University, a large public university that was founded in 1884 and is a major contributor to the local economy. Continue reading
